Dory Days Festival July 16-17

Dory Days is a celebration of the local dory fishing culture unique to Pacific City, hosted by the Pacific City-Nestucca Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Pacific City Dorymen’s Association.

The Dory Days Parade starts at 11 am. The theme this year is “Stars and Stripes”.  It will begin at Bob Straub State Park and crosses over the Beachy Bridge to the 4-way stop, then turns north on Brooten Rd. towards Chester’s Market where the route ends. The parade is expected to include multiple dory boats, horses, classic cars and more. In honor of longtime PCDA’s co-chair Craig Wenrick, His wife Susie Wenrick and their children will serve as Grand Marshals and their grand children will be serving as the 2022 Dory Days Princesses.

There will be an Artisan Fair at the 4-way stop at the corner of NW Pacific Ave and Brooten Rd.  Held Friday through Sunday. Expect to see pottery, wood crafts, bird houses and plants and more.

Nestucca Volunteer Firefighters Association is hosting a Pancake Feed prior to the parade on the 16th from 7-10 a.m. at the Kiawanda Community Center. They will be serving up pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, ham and coffee. Proceeds benefit the Volunteer Associations scholarship program and hardship fund. $7 adults and $3.50 for ages 12 and under.

There will be a Fish Fry held Saturday afternoon from Noon to 5 p.m. at the Kiawanda Community Center with local dory-caught fish and chips with all the fixings. Event sponsored by  SeaQ Fish and Sportman’s Pub-n-Grub.

Kids Activities are Noon to 3:oo p.m. at the Kiawanda Community Center.

Saturday find a Dory Boat Display with both older and newer boats in front of the hangar at 35130 Brooten Rd, across from the firehall 9 a.m. to 5p.m. There will be a historical display held at the Kiawanda Community Center “Launching Through The Surf: The Dory Fleet of Pacific City” that includes a 26 panel exhibit on boat building, Blessing of the Fleet, the Memorial Wall and more.  Also a Wooden Boat Show starting at 8 a.m. Saturday held at 35070 Brooten Rd.

Saturday morning there will be a Fishing Contest open to fishermen launching at Cape Kiwanda. Contest starts at 5 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m.  Compete for the biggest limit (by weight) for halibut, salmon, lingcod and rockfish.
